The ongoing incapacity for Florida state officials and the Seminole Tribe to come calmly to an agreement throughout the continuation of their gambling lightweight is coming to a head this week, as state video gaming regulators are telling tribal leaders which they will need to produce an agenda to shut down their blackjack tables if an understanding cannot be reached.

In a letter delivered by Department of company and Professional Regulation secretary Ken Lawson, it was pointed away that the current lightweight involving the state and also the tribe requires the Seminoles to close their blackjack tables down within 90 days in the event that state legislature does perhaps not renew the provision that provides the Seminoles the exclusive right to banked games in the state.

Such a measure was considered, but didn't pass.

Tribe Plans to Continue Offering Games

That letter stands in stark contrast towards the stance of the tribe.

Tribal Council Chairman James Billie composed his own letter last month, telling state officials that Seminole casinos could continue to provide banked card games, as they believe that their state has violated the compact by allowing electronic versions of games like blackjack at some South Florida racetracks.

Those two stances may mean that the ultimate fate of blackjack at Seminole casinos are going to be decided in federal court.

While both sides have said they wish to fulfill and resolve the dispute, their ideas of the resolution are far aside, meaning steps that are further probably be necessary.

For the Seminoles, the next step would ideally be mediation.

The tribe has already made a request for such mediation, saying they would like it to simply take place sometime within the next 30 days.

'The Tribe seeks to confirm…its present right to carry on providing banked card games for the rest of the term of the Compact…its right to stop making exclusivity payments to the State under the Compact and to instead make those payments into an escrow account; and…its right to expand the areas at which its allowed to provide banked card games,' the tribe published in its mediation request.

Compact Includes Disputed Exclusivity Clause

The dispute is finished the meaning of the 2010 compact signed between the Seminole Tribe and the continuing state of Florida.

The lightweight would be to last for twenty years; for the first five years of the deal, five of the seven facilities operated by the Seminoles had been to really have the right that is exclusive provide banked card games (in other words, games in which players played from the house, instead than against each other, as in poker).
